Stores should sell local food products and not the imported food products. Do you agree or disagree?

The shelves in the supermarkets across the world sell international food products, which might be ready to eat foods, the raw ingredients or veggies and fruits. A few Commoners, however, argue that stores should only sell indigenous varieties of food thus restricting their imports and also controlling prices.

To Reckons with, I sternly condemn this idea as it would unfold plentiful downsides of it. As the world is slowly shrinking into a global unit, people are migrating from one part of the world to other and availability of the foods of their taste harmonises their adaptability to new environs. If an American get Avocado and a Chinese finds range of noodles in Australia it is not only preserving their right to make choices but enabling them to lead their right foreign life happily. Though these imports might be expensive yet it strengthens trade ties with other nations and offer a plate of variety to its natives as well. However, this must not be taken as a setback to demand for local food items as surplus of these can be processed and sold over a longer period. Undeniably, buying exotic pinches customer's pocket yet he is doing so knowingly and happily thus contributing towards boosting the host country's economy. Ther is no denying the fact if a country imports any food that is already grown by its farmers then it is nothing but imposing financial burden on the nation and demoralising its farming community. Shockingly, this has been quite often observed in India, to reinforce it, India has been importing sugar, cotton and edible oil from neighbouring countries in the past to meet its shortage while farmers here have been committing suicide due to financial losses. However, in this case, the government could inform the producers to grow that food or offer subsidies on its seeds or organic compost to retain its quality and quantity.

Hammering the last nail, I opine that the fault does not lie with Import of food items but the strategies of the government which compel to import to meet the shortage.
